The Mule is a subdued, carefree paced, tongue-in-cheek drama that rekindles Clint Eastwood’s distinctly prepossessing storytelling structures. Although, the honeyed morals and verbal face-offs that the script repeatedly trudges through seem as if they were wrenched out of a child’s favorite Saturday afternoon cartoon, Eastwood still manages to keep the film fresh within the razor-sharp direction, endearing scenarios, and tenderly sincere perspectives. Never stop doing you, Eastwood. There’s a reason why you’re one of my all-time favorites in the business. (Verdict: B-)
