Critiquing Film, Television, and More

Quickie: Brian De Palma’s Blow Out (1981)

Blow Out sees John Travolta seeking out to sew and polish up an enigma of murder, corruption, and virtue, while ALSO, rag-tagging with an obnoxious female sidekick/crime-witness/con-artist/poser-prostitute, while ALSO, contemplating his dispiriting past, manufacturing voluptuary horror flicks on the side, hunting down John Lithgow playing John Lithgow, burning the American dream, and unconsciously starring in a augustly directed, in-tune Brian De Palma film that resummons the suspense of Hitchcock and offers one ignition of a dire wind-up. Yeah. (Verdict: B)

“Blow Out” is now available to stream on Amazon Prime and Hulu.
