Quickie: Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries (1957)

I decided to watch this one today after hearing about Bibi Andersson‘s passing this morning. Rest in peace you talented, talented actress.

Wild Strawberries’ clever script causes its very simple premise to transmute into something more. The idiosyncratic layout which cuts between real-time, flashbacks, and dream sequences gave this film a beguiling flavor. I wasn’t necessarily fazed by Wild Strawberries like I was with Ingmar Bergman’s Seventh Seal and Persona, but I was decidedly charmed by it nonetheless.

Verdict: B

“Wild Strawberries” is available to rent and buy on Amazon Prime, iTunes, and The Criterion Channel.
