Quickie: Xavier Dolan’s I Killed My Mother (2009)

Yoooooooo, this dude is a genius.

You can spot out cinematic potential when a twenty-year-old individual’s passion project has superb directing, acting and writing in it, and an overall core that keeps blossoming and blossoming like this radiating crescendo of the lightness and the darkness of the common relationship between the son and the mother.

Yes, I can absolutely get over the fact that the final product does look like a cheap student film and that it does tend to play it safe with a redundant formula because for a directorial debut this is over and above exceptional.

Verdict: B

“I Killed My Mother” is now available to stream on The Criterion Channel.
