Quickie: The Elephant Man (1980)

Fantastic film. This surely is David Lynch functioning with his most mainstream aptitudes, but it’s doubtlessly his craftiest attempt at engendering emotion amongst his viewers. Lynch clearly knows how to exhibit sequences that feel perilously gut-wrenching and unadulterated. Another old-fashioned decorated movie to add to the list of things that make me hate human beings but—as cheesy as it sounds—have hope in some. Bless your soul, John Merrick.

Verdict: B+

That shocking moment when you realize, once the credits appear, that the director of Rocketman played the main little boy in The Elephant Man. What???

“The Elephant Man” is available to rent and buy on YouTube, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu, and Amazon Prime.
