Quickie: All About My Mother (1999)

I feel bad for not liking All About My Mother that much, I really do. Pedro Almodóvar’s directing is so honed, the film looks magnificent, and the story is smack-dab compelling, but I never found myself immersed. It was like watching a sequence of plots, tumble and tumble, one after the other until it accumulated into this tonally off kilter farrago that made me kind of lose scrutiny in certain storylines and sometimes even our primary one.

Maybe, I’m just not cultured enough to fancy Pedro Almodóvar’s soap-opera-esc style in this specific feature-length. I did crave the heavens out of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown though, so, who can tell?

Nonetheless though, I still thought All About My Mother was sound and indisputably tangible. I 100% can understand how anybody could think this movie is a tour de force, but I didn’t find it to be that astounding. Lo siento.

Hmm. Maybe my heart is still trying to heal after watching those laboring, empty-headed Resident Evil movies. Yeah, it’s pretty much dead. This recovery may take a while.

Verdict: B-

“All About My Mother” is now available to rent and buy on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes, and Google Play.
