Quick-Thoughts: Dario Argento’s The Cat O’ Nine Tails (1971)

Dario Argento Binge Part I of III

Yeah, there are many D-U-M-B story conveniences, insufferable lines of dialogue, jumpy sequence of events, and gaping plot holes littered in The Cat O’ Nine Tails, but Dario Argento’s passion-fueled directing, absorbing shot compositions, and contemplative execution in the investigation are enough to raise the thriller picture to a tolerable standard. There are some extravagant kills too, as always when it comes to Argento.

Oh yes, and that score. It’s a Dario Argento movie; you know it’s gonna be nothin’ but flames.

Ennio Morricone, you devil.

Verdict: B-

Dario Argento vs. John Carpenter
