Quick-Thoughts: Adaptation (2002)

“But I should write something first, then reward myself with coffee.”

Honestly, the most relatable line in movie history for me.

So, you get to choose between two lives: one, the screenwriter chad who writes mindless, Hollywood, financial, stereotype movies while maintaining a prosperous social life or two, the screenwriter know-it-all who writes unorthodox, cinematic, boundary-pushers but can’t comprehend social criterias.

Adaptation is the aspiring screenwriter’s candy. Anddddd, the aspiring screenwriter’s poison. This movie is literally about the snobbish creation of itself. Jonze and Kaufman have put us cinephiles through inconceivable loops, once more, dammit.

This was just a meditative warm-up to Synecdoche, New York, though, the more you think about it. What a teaser.

Verdict: A-

“Adaptation” is now available to stream on Amazon Prime, Vudu, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play, Crackle, and The Criterion Channel.
