Quick-Thoughts: David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986)

Shonagh Jabour and Denise Cronenberg were able to transform the seductive as hell Jeff Goldblum into one of the most hideous things I’ve ever seen. Now that takes REAL skill.

I had to start off with the big one when it came to sliding into David Cronenberg’s filmography, and goodness gracious has there been an “impression” left on me. Stomach-churning in ways unimaginable, The Fly begins as an enchanting love story that slowly spirals into a deranged tragedy that features some truly mind-blowing practical effects. Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis’s cogent performances definitely help elevate this movie far past the ordinary creature-feature territory, as well.

Anyways, I won’t be eating for a while now, thanks to The Fly. I can’t wait to visit more of Cronenberg’s work. Yahoo…

Verdict: B+

“The Fly” is now available to stream on YouTube, iTunes, Google Play, Vudu, Amazon Prime, and Starz.
