Quick-Thoughts: Wong Kar-wai’s Fallen Angels (1995)

Fallen Angels’ “sequel” label makes plenty of sense considering it’s essentially a bounce-off on the ideas that were brought up in Chungking Express. The aesthetic of Wong Kar-wai’s 1995 follow-up is even identical to his 1994 masterpiece.

Even though the presentation and general premise of Fallen Angels are pretty foreseeable due to these efforts, the meticulous character journeys and consequential emotional resonance that Kar-wai delivers to the audience still feels close to as gifted as cinema can possibly get. From beginning to end, this movie sucked me into a wormhole of flavorful execution.

Verdict: A-

More of a Feeling Than a Story (Kar Wai vs. Malick)

“Fallen Angels” is now available to stream on The Criterion Channel.
