Quick-Thoughts: The Safdie Brother’s Daddy Longlegs (2009)

Daddy Longlegs: a very customary “loving but irresponsible divorced dad takes care of his children for a couple weeks” chronicle that is clearly a personal project of the Safdie Brothers. As was The Pleasure of Being Robbed, the affect of its casually realistic and immovable plot sort of wears off the more it goes on, losing ideas as it continues its route of familiarity. I get it, and I respect it, and I’m glad that the Safdie’s have this piece to keep close to themselves, but as far as Father’s Day films go, this is a DVD rental at best.

Great performances, nonetheless.

Verdict: C+

“Daddy Longlegs” is now available to stream on Amazon Prime, Google Play, YouTube, Apple TV, Sling TV, and The Criterion Channel.
