Quick-Thoughts: Batman & Robin (1997)

??? Viewing

Imagine actually believing that Batman & Robin is the worst comic-book movie ever when the lifeless Fan4stic and Justice League exist.

The final entry in DC Entertainment’s Batman quadrilogy is essentially the same, goofy movie as Batman Forever, except um… you have to sit through it again. Uma Thurman pretty much copies Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance as Catwoman. Bane is just background flavor. Mr. Freeze is the cringe-machine of a generation. George Clooney is really good at playing himself. Batgirl is in this, because? And, Robin *sigh* is still hanging around. Your five-year-old will love it, but nobody else beyond that age probably will… At least Alfred gets a spotlight in this and the campiness is fully embraced—for better or worse.

The set design is still mildly snazzy, again, though. I could be staring at hideous, CGI PS2-looking locations for two hours instead—*CAUGH CAUGH* Justice League. Or, being bored to death by phlegmatic performances—*CAUGH CAUGH* Fan4stic *CAUGH* and Justice League

Verdict: D

“Batman & Robin” is now available to stream on HBO Max.
