Woah dudes, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is… kind of outdated?
I hate to say that what Stephen Herek finds to be worthwhile entertainment here appeared to be quite mediocre, under my beliefs. Everything one would expect from a PG, easy-going movie where historical figures are brought into the present… happens, making the final product here feel quite lackluster and forgettable.
The singular elements that distinguish Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure from the rest of the trademark time travel movies of the 80s, however, solely come from its distinct lead characters who speak with the most excellent of phrases and excel in creating a most indubitably fun rock ‘n’ roll, stoner-esc atmosphere. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to reconcile the juvenile plot, predictable gimmicks, and the strangely small amount of successful gags that the remainder of the feature has to offer.
I’m sure I would’ve loved this as a kid, but as of the moment, I don’t quite completely share the appeal for this cult classic as many others may have. Ay, it wasn’t a part of my childhood; I’m sorry!
George Carlin on electric guitar though… most outstanding!
Verdict: C+
