Little Simz. Yes.
Okay so here me out: this would honestly work better as a straight up sitcom. Now THAT I might love. Nutty, shouty characters like Hardy, Harrelson, and a black goo monster with the munchies, along with the basic friendship breakup blueprint would be way more fitting in the black comedy aesthetic of an episode made for sleazeballs; just slap an MA rating on it — while hiring Goldberg and Rogen — and you might have yourselves a hit! I mean hell, this movie had so many opportunities to sneak in a laugh track that I unconsciously started making them up in my head (and mouth) during the screening!
Anyways, the nicest thing I can say though is that back in 2018 I saw no reason for the first Venom to have a cult following — like damn cult movies hit a new low there — but this? Yeah, I could condone it. What a bats**t cuckoo superhero movie for better and worse.
Verdict: C-
