Quick-Thoughts: Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (2011)

3rd Viewing

He’s a red flag.

A purely emotional sensory experience. A fairytale odyssey if it aped our real lives from the overconsumption of entertainment. A surreal airspace of silentness, slow facial expression solos, and simple yet intense triggers of joy, inspiration, and loneliness, powdered in a concrete crime scenario where good is almost all an illusion. A pure genre redraft for the modern or later era of gentle blockbuster dopamine.

We need to become less reluctant of movies that tamper with style in order to evoke new pleasures. Drive was a 2010s starting point for achieving this given its now larger than life cult following.

Verdict: B+

“Drive” is now available to rent on Amazon Prime.
