Quick-Thoughts: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ★★½

My feelings towards Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom are essentially the same as mine on the previous Jurassic World. They’re both senselessly enjoyable, and you can have fun watching them. However, they bring nothing authentic or refreshing to the franchise and are ultimately just typical, mediocre summer blockbusters. The Jurassic Park series deserves miles better than this. (Verdict: C-)

Even though this entry is watchable, it still doesn’t stop it from being annoying. At times this movie is just very very very obnoxious. Way too many times.

Revisiting John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978)

So I’m going to be marathoning the Halloween movies leading up to David Gordon Green’s new incarnation coming out later this year. John Carpenter’s original classic Halloween, still erupts with fright and terror even after all these years. Directed with mastery and suspenseful as hell, Halloween’s story of supernatural character Michael Myers’s reign of bloodshed is undoubtedly legendary. (Verdict: A+)

Quick-Thoughts: Incredibles 2 ★★★★

1st Viewing: I’m overjoyed to announce that Incredibles 2 was worth the 14 year wait. It’s a pure blast from start to finish that pleased my nostalgic expectations. All though the new characters including the villain didn’t impress me, the original characters we know and love carried this film fortuitously. (Verdict: A-)

2nd Viewing: Even more *INCREDIBLE* than the first time watching (but not really)! Sorry guys…I’m sure that one has been done a billion times…I’ll leave now… Verdict Change: (A- —> B+)

Sign the Jack Jack Spin-off Petition if you got mad respect for this movie and the holy, one and only, goddly character that is Jack Jack.

Quick-Thoughts: Hereditary ★★★★½

1st Viewing: Hereditary is one of the most unsettling films I’ve ever seen. It’s been a while since a horror movie has gotten this much under my skin. Look out for Ari Aster. He might just become the next household name in the world of cinema. (Verdict: A)

2nd Viewing: Almost as riveting as when Ari Aster liked my tweet! (Verdict Is Still An: A)

Quickie: The Incredibles (2004) ★★★★★

In preparation for the upcoming release of Incredibles 2, I decided to rewatch my all-time favorite movie as a child, The Incredibles. Not only has the film kept its brisk steam due to its dashing pace, but it also still stands as one of the finest superhero movies ever created! It truly is Pixar at their best. (Verdict: A)

Quick-Thoughts: Best F(r)iends: Volume 2 ★★★★

Best theater experience of the year so far. The crowd was wild!

Best F(r)iends Volume 2 was just as berserk as its predecessor. It ascended a startling amount of intensity and amped up its David Lynch-like tone. Please, Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero, don’t stop making movies! Also, Rick Edwards’s performance was next level iconic. (Verdict: B+)

Quick-Thoughts: Upgrade ★★★★½

Upgrade might just be this year’s biggest surprise so far. You can tell Leigh Whannell wanted it to appeal to both fans of 70s action-flicks and modern sci-fi fanatics. The direction and camerawork in this film is to be praised and movie-lovers who miss action blockbusters that take their time within presentation, should most certainly seek this one out. (Verdict: A-)

Quick-Thoughts: First Reformed ★★★★

First Reformed marks Paul Schrader’s return to filmmaking mastery. It’s a haunting, politically significant piece that expresses a mortifying look into the psychological loss of sanity. A24 has released another original gem that challenges the modern industry. (Verdict: A-)

Quick-Thoughts: Solo: A Star Wars Story ★★½

So the Force Awakens was solid, Rogue One was decent, and the Last Jedi was mediocre. Where does Solo rank among these recent entries in the Star Wars saga? Well let’s just say, it continues the progressive downhill of Lucasfilms’ attempts to revive the Star Wars magic. It kills me to say Solo: A Star Wars Story was possibly the most hollow Star Wars movie yet. It has its entertaining moments, and a solid assemble of cast members, but you can’t help feel like Disney has fabricated a thoughtless cash grab stunt. (Verdict: C)
