Update: New Grading Scale (Again, I Know)

I did the mathematics and I did all the snobby, dorky calculations. In my opinion, this is the most accurate possible scale that I could think of that equally coordinates letter grades with /10 number scores. For just judging movies and music, of course.

A+ —> 100 or 10/10

A —> 92 or 9/10

A- —> 85 or 8-9/10

B+ —> 77 or 8/10

B —> 69 or 7/10

B- —> 62 or 6/10

C+ —> 54 or 5/10

C —> 46 or 5/10

C- —> 38 or 4/10

D+ —> 31 or 3/10

D —> 23 or 2/10

D- —> 15 or 1-2/10

F —> 8 or 1/10

I will be updating the grades that I have given movies from 2019 and onward.

Announcement: My Rating System Has Changed!

The following announcement is outdated. For the newest update on my rating system, click here

I’ve been told countless times by both peers (Ex: The Jack of All Trades himself) and fellow film critics that a C+ grade is a negative score amongst the world of criticism on cinema. In spite of this, I have always used the C+ grade as the lowest positive score I could give a movie within my reviews and I hadn’t decided to change that mindset until now. I did some research on what the averages were for how people interpret “letter grade” scores in movie reviews, and I have decided to use those international averages as a procedure to rate my movies from now on.

My New Rating System:

🏆A+ ~ Perfection. One of my all-time favorite movies! (96-100/100)

🏆A ~ A near masterpiece. Something truly worth praising about. (90/100)

🏅A- ~ Phenomenal. If the word “breathtaking” could be a movie, this would be it. (83/100)

💘B+ ~ Remarkably impressive. Loved it. (76/100)

🙏🏼B ~ Great! Maybe even really great! It’s nothing extraordinary, but, who cares? (70/100)

👍🏼B- ~ Has a decent amount of issues, but the pros tumble the cons. (63/100)

🤷‍♀️C+ ~ So close to fresh, but there are obstacles that are preventing it from getting there. (56/100)

🤷‍♂️C ~ Mediocre, disappointing, but mindlessly enjoyable? (50/100)

🚫C- ~ Nothing offensively substandard, but it’s way below average. (43/100)

🚫D+ ~ This is where we start hitting “bad” territory. (36/100)

🚮D ~ HOT TRASH. It has some sufficient qualities but is still HOT TRASH. (30/100)

💩D- ~ A despicable waste of time; something truly worth hating. (23/100)

💩F ~ A disgrace against humanity or a hilarious blessing, LOL. (1-10/100)

Every review I wrote back in 2018, will follow the guidelines of my original rating system. All my reviews from 2019 will be edited so that it models my new rating system.

My Old Rating System:

A+ ~ Perfection. One of my all-time favorite movies!

A ~ A near masterpiece. Something truly worth praising about.

A- ~ Phenomenal. If the word “breathtaking” could be a movie, this would be it.

B+ ~ Remarkably impressive. Loved it.

~ Great! Maybe even really great! Wasn’t extraordinary but, who cares?

B- ~ An absolute blast. Has a decent amount of issues, but the pros tumble the cons.

C+ ~ THIS IS A POSITIVE SCORE. A good chunk of readers often mistaken this grade as “negative”. Make no mistake, this is a “positive” score. A solid movie that ultimately hits the “fresh” mark.

C ~ A mediocre film that has way too many issues. Overall, its dissapointing but, sufficient enough to mindlessly watch and “enjoy”.

C- ~ A movie that may not be good, but is certainly not complete garbage. It has some fine and redeemable moments.

D+ ~ This is where we start hitting “bad” territory.

D ~ A film that is absolute garbage. It has some sufficient qualities, but still remains to be trash.

D- ~ A despicable waste of time; something truly worth hating.

~ A so-called film that lives and breathes at the bottom of the barrel. I rarely give movies this grade but when I do, its either because it’s one of the worst pieces of s*** I’ve ever seen or it’s hilariously atrocious.

Thanks for tuning into this announcement. Much love.
